Organic Search Results
Organic results are non paid results. At the top of the organic search on a specific term is the best place to be.
Sponsored Links - Pay per click
Sponsored links are where a website pays to be placed. You can start a Google adwords campaign where you can set amounts you are willing to pay for certain keywords.
There is skill in running these campaigns because essentially Google likes to get quality results for its browsers and will rate your link in different ways.
Click Fraud
The bidding for keywords can be expensive. There are plenty of examples where the price of a click cannot
possibly be recovered by visitors to a site. Competitors may have a strategy of gaining exposure at any cost using investor funds. If this is the case it is best to avoid competing with "unlimited funds".
Unscrupulous competitors will click on the advertisements of others - the only winner here is Google.
SEO skills
Not all websites are created equal. The skills required to create a website include:-
- Graphic Design
- Marketing
- HTML
- Web Programming (PHP, JSP, JavaScript etc.)
- Video and animation
- Copy creation
- Secure payment processing
- Database design
- Search Engine Optimisation
Good SEO skills ensure your site is found on the internet. Odds are most web developers will not be experts in all of these fields but one of the most important is Search Engine Optimisation.
Search Engine Optimisation specialsts can determine how your site would go against competitors and advise on whether you stand a realistic chance of getting to a prime above the fold position for your keywords.
