Some of the most recognisable companies in the world have names that are short, unusual, or even intentionally misspelled. Names like Lyft, Flickr, and Tumblr may not follow traditional spelling rules, yet they are instantly recognisable.

This raises an interesting question: why do short and unconventional names often work so well?

The name Lyft clearly echoes the word "lift," suggesting transportation - but the altered spelling creates a distinctive identity. Similarly, Flickr dropped the final "e" to produce a shorter and more brandable version of the word "flicker."
